Data Egress Fees

Also known as Egress Charges, Data Transfer Fees

Definition

Data egress fees are per-gigabyte charges for transferring data out of a cloud platform, whether to serve users, sync regions, or leave the provider. Alongside inter-zone transfer and managed-gateway charges, egress is one of the recurring line items practitioners name when a cloud bill surprises - and because it prices the exit itself, it functions as a switching cost that compounds with data growth.

Egress belongs in two models, not one: the monthly bill it inflates today, and the exit cost it adds to any future repatriation or vendor switch. Data-heavy architectures should price both before the data accumulates - it only gets more expensive to reconsider.
